Kpop - understand it before you criticize it.

I found this post on gurupop and she (KpopIsAmazing) apparently found it on Tumblr, so I have no idea who posted the original one. So, partly because I have nothing else exciting to post here and partly because I think it needs to be spread around to K-pop fans and non-K-pop fans alike, I'm re-posting it here. (NOTE: I am not taking ANY credit for this. I did not write it, but I do love it.)

http://www.gurupop.com/post/138276-Kpop-understand-it-before-you-criticize-it

Kpop - understand it before you criticize it.

• Friend: Why do you like KPOP so much anyway? I mean, you can't even understand most of the lyrics and their autotuned songs-
• Me: Don't start that again.
• Friend: But-
• Me: Have you ever experienced waking up every morning just to deliver milk in order to not burden your parents with the training expenses?
• Friend: Well, no, but-
• Me: Did you drop out of high school to pursue your dream even if you're uncertain that you'll make it big?
• Me: Have you tried dancing and singing onstage with your heels on?
• Me: Did you experience hearing so much criticism you end up breaking down but you have to put on a smile for the sake of others?
• Me: Have you tried getting no more than two hours of sleep before tackling a new day all over again?
• Me: Did you experience having a hater that can go as far as putting glue in your drink, causing you to be hospitalized? And at the end, you'll forgive her because she's the same age as your sibling?
• Me: Have you tried auditioning countless of times before finally getting accepted?
• Me: Can you stay single for the sake of your supporters?
• Me: Can you sing and dance--live--at the same time?
• Me: Can you live up to the image a company has given you?
• Me: Can you bear living away from your family and friends, not being able to communicate with them for a long time because of your work?
• Friend: Well, when we grow up that's what we'll do anyway so-
• Me: At the age of fifteen, sixteen, seventeen or maybe even eighteen?
• Friend:
• Me: There's more to KPOP than it seems. If you see them without the
• spotlight shining down on them, then you'll understand.

I love how the whole thing just seems to be a huge love call / shout out to every K-pop idol there has ever been and if you know a lot about some of the idols and you've watch their variety shows and watched them break down and/or talk about what they went through before becoming the shining, beautiful idols we all know and love, and even the hardships that they had to face after the companies thought they were good enough to debut, but apparently the Haters are still hating.

And the only thing I disagree with is the part talking about living away from friends and family. "ME: At the age of fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, or maybe even eighteen?" It's obviously talking about us, who haven't suffered such hardship. We usually stay at home longer. I'm 20, and though I've gone abroad and lived in a dorm for a year, I live at home right now. I do work and help pay bills, so it's not like I live off my parents, but it's not like I've had to fend for myself. I have it easy. I feel like that line would have been much more effective if "ME" talked about the idols' ages instead. And the following are only the ones I know off the top of my head, though I'm sure there are FAR more:

*SHINee's Taemin was discovered at the 2005 S.M. Open Weekend Audition Casting. He was 12.
SHINee debuted in 2008. Taemin was 15.

* U-KISS's Dongho's father owes a magazine company, so he was pretty much around celebrities his own life. U-Kiss debuted in 2008, Dongho was 14.

Dongho apparently also talked about his hard childhood on an epidsode of Strong Heart (I have not watched the episode myself) and he talked about when during those hard times, he had once packed everything in a bag, even withdrawing everything from his bank account, despite his young age, and ran away from home.

* The other members of U-Kiss also talked about their hardships on a show (I believe it was U-Kiss Vampire) and revealed the hardships they had suffered before making it as idol: Kiseop had audtioned many, many times for many different companies, but was repeatedly rejected.

Eli lived alone in China for a while, living on only Ramen noodles and the soup.

* Seventeen, a boy group from Pledis Entertainment that is said to be debuting this year, is said to have a member that was born in 2001, which makes him 12. ( I received this news from a fan that has been following news about their debut.)

Please share this post.

I really don't mind it when people say they don't like K-pop or they don't especially like a certain group or band. It's their choice. What am I going to do? Force them to lke it? No!

What I DO mind is when people bash on idols or leave hate messages or act like idols have an easy life where they don't do much and makes tons and tons of cash for doing nothing. Show those people that it's not like that. Please stop the hate.

Thank you.

We have subscribers??!!!??!

So, I was being a little bored today ...
Well, procrastinating really... it's totally not like I have a really long to-do list that I should really get done today.....  >.>

Anyway, I was checking out our YouTube page and saw that we have 157 subscribers...
What!??!?!! But... but... what did we do??

I feel like that's a lot of people for a channel that only has 15 videos...

Okay. I'm done now.....

130113 - KMM - Girls' Generation: I Got a Boy

This week's K-pop Music Monday talks about Girl's Generation's "I Got a Boy."

EYK's KMM blog page

Kpop Music Mondays : Girls' Generation "I Got a Boy"

(watch it in playlist mode!!!)

Girls' Generation 소녀시대_I GOT A BOY_Music Video

I was planning to be a butt-hurt about it being Girls' Generation and not some smaller band like Nu'est or Orange Caramel or something, but then I remembered I wasn't here for a few weeks, so I don't really know what other songs were released that were good or not-so-good.....
I, personally, kind of liked the song, though I totally agree with Simon and Martina's opinion about the multiple beat change-up being very... jarring...??? Just because something's awesome doesn't mean that if you put multiple awesome things together, it will make something REALLY awesome. It, unfortunately, doesn't quite work that way.

However, I was surprised they didn't mention Sunny's hair. It looks like she even colored her lower lashes the same color.

Taeyeon wanted in on the Spudgy-ness too by dying the tips of her hair blue.

Looks like SM wanted in on all the Spudgy-ness. tsk. tsk. tsk. I sense the first entry for EYK 2013: Spudgy Look-alike.

Vote for Simon and Martina for THE SHORTY AWARDS!!!

Do it.

THE EYK AWARDS 2012!!

The winners of the EYK Awards have been announced!!
Heck, the videos announcing the winners have already been posted for over a couple of weeks now, but as I was on the other side of the country with no way to access the internet, I will have to post it now...

Keep your eyes out for a... um... special guest appearance.....

2012 Eat Your Kimchi Awards Ceremony - Part 2

The Holiday Video is now view-able!!

Before I left for two weeks, for a vacay in Taiwan with my mom, I was being a whining, complaining, butt-hurt about the copyright issue of me using JYP nation's "This Christmas" song, because that meant that the video couldn't be viewed. I wanted to promote as a "Merry Christmas!!" or "Happy Holidays!" (if you don't celebrate Christmas) to all the oohh so nasty Nasties out there!!

But, when I got back, they had released the claim and it can now be viewed on YouTube!!
*so happy*!!! So, better late than never.
Love you all and I hope you guys have an awesome new year!!!

Here's the video too:

The Holiday Video is Up!!!

Jenny here again!!! ^_^
The holiday video is finally up!! It's not as amazing as I was hoping it to be, but I suck as an editor anyway soo... whatevs. I think it's decent and I spent sooo many hours on it!!! AND I'm soo, soooo, SOOOO happy and excited that my computer DIDN'T decide to glitch out on me (as it usually does).

I tried to include all our favorite biases and such. For bball42242442, I don't know if you noticed that I tried to include a lot of Nana and a little Lizzy for you and very little Rania. There's some Nu'est for the Lo/\e's out there. I was also able to find some U-Kiss clips of Xander and (Allen) Kibum for people that support them as solo artists (or, like me, will always stubbornly think of U-Kiss as a 9-member family). I really hope you guys enjoy!!!

After watching it myself, I think that there's this... large-ISH... amount of U-Kiss in the video.....
What?!?! Me?! Biased?!?!  Nooo......  What makes you say that??  "">.>

Anyway, here are the links to all the clips that I actually did use in the making of the video. I included the full title, channel name and links ^_^

I also used pictures from U-KISS's facebook page
http://www.facebook.com/ukiss

I also found this picture and I can't remember where it's from, but it's an adorable and very Christmas-y Kevin. How could I possibly NOT use this picture?
And if anyone knows where this is from, could you message me or something so I can properly credit it??

New Profile Picture

Jenny again.
I made a logo picture thingie!!!!!!
I made it in paint, but it look cooler when made bigger, because I took a picture of a red candle that I have and it's got all kind of hues of reds that swirl together and stuff. I took that picture and used the eraser on Paint to make an apple!!!  And I took a picture of an actual apple to get the stalk of the apple.  ^_^

I think that should totally be our color. Apple red.

Hopefully Posting the Video Tomorrow (Finally)

Hey guys! It's Jenny again!! (I guess I'm the only one managing the blog... Not that I really know what to put up here... ^_^" )

Anyway, that holiday video I've been promising?
I'm getting there. I think I've isolated all the clips and pictures that I want and now I'm just working on getting them all in the right order that I want and get all the timings right and hope that my computer doesn't glitch out on me in the middle or something.
I've been saving everything on a flash drive, so hopefully that will keep me from losing stuff and having to start over. I've got about a minute of the song done, but all that downloading and cutting really takes a lot of time. I feel really sorry and in awe of editors everywhere. Just imagine how much time must go into the cutting, pasting, and editing of all those music videos!!! They probably have better software than I do but still!!!!

As a... teaser (?) of sorts. I'll release all the videos/clips and pictures that I used (or rather, where I found them). It was kind of hard narrowing them down to these, because I really wanted to stick to non-fan stuff, but there were so many good random fancam and fan-dubbed shows that I wanted to use (especially for U-Kiss, the only Christmas-y thing that I could find that was not fan-dubbed shows was "Neverland" and that's just because it has snow in it.......)
Anyway... I included the full name of the video that I used as well as their channel name in parenthesis

JYP Nation clips (as well as the song used):
"[M/V JYP Nation] This Christmas" (jypentertainment)

"[Video Clip] miss A "Christmas Greetings"" (missA)

U-KISS clips:
"U-KISS(유키스) NEVERLAND(네버랜드) M/V Full ver" (ukiss2008)
"U-KISS(유키스) NEVERLAND Dance Full ver." (ukiss2008)

I also got a few pictures from their facebook page
I was actually hoping to find some Xander and Kibum, because I'm the type of person that think that once you're in a family, you're always in the family. (In the same way that I believe in SJ15, U-Kiss is 9.) But I had no luck. Maybe I'll stumble upon something before tomorrow night *fingers crossed*:
http://www.facebook.com/ukiss

EDIT: Allen Kibum did release a website, but it's all in Japanese. I can recognize a few words if one was speaking (Anime FTW), but reading...??? T_T
Here the [LINK] for those of you who CAN read Japanese

Pledis Family clips:
"Sondambi, Afterschool(손담비, 애프터스쿨) _ LOVE LETTER MV" (LOENENT)
"[MV] ORANGE CARAMEL - 흰눈 사이로 하이힐 타고 (feat.NU'EST)" (pledisartist)
(LOENENT)

EPIK HIGH clips
"epik high can't dance (CC for Eng. subs)" (mapthesoul) - Not actually sure I'm going to end up using this one, because it's kind of a filler clip that I plan to use if there are spots I need to fill in, but I think I will have more than enough with those U-Kiss pictures (oops... Is my bias showing? ^_^" Me?! U-kiss biased?!? What makes you say that?!?!)
"Epik High Last Christmas Concert 2009 / 에픽하이 크리스마스 콘서트" (mapthesoul)

I hope that I'll have something awesome to show you guy in roughly 24 hours!
Come on self, you can do it!!

Delayed Holiday Video

So, because I guess everyone decided to not send me anything, I've had to change everything up. I've also been really busy because I was going to work on it today and yesterday, but I was scheduled to work, so I really didn't get much time to work on the video. However, I'm going to keep working on it now, but it totally is not going to be finished until Christmas is over.  :(
I'm still going to try to get it up before the New Year's though!!!

So, since I have close to nothing to work with. I'm going to clash together some of us Epik Nasties' biases!!! As well as multiple companies because they all produce our favorite K-pop music and gave us our favorite idols to love!!

For the Pledis family, I think I can use clips from Orange Caramel and NU'EST's "Dashing through the Snow in High Heels" for iloveminhyun the Almighty Editor and Jamie... the guy...
It is very Christmas-y (obviously) and I've already found some parts that I think I will be able to match to the song. This is just going to take a lot of time.....

I would also really like to get some U-KISS in there because they're adorable. Obviously. They're AMAZING!!! So far the only thing Christmas-y was a fan posted video of them and SECRET doing a holiday thingie, but I REALLY want to try to get videos that were actually posted by the companies or stuff so it'll be easier for me to credit them. There are some adorable clips of them from gurupop.com (They were on Episode 9- [Gurupop LINK] [YouTube LINK] You should watch it. IT'S IN (mostly) ENGLISH!!!) that I think I could probably use, even though it was totally not Christmas-y in anyway. It was winter-y! They had sweaters!!!

For the JYP nation, I'm already using their song "This Christmas," and I'll mostly likely put in some clips of them too. (Just because I'm so Miss A biased.)

I really don't know what to do about the SM World. I love SHINee and f(x) and Super Junior, but I feel like they already have so much global love and they're so well known and stuff. And I don't know if clips from their "Santa, U Are the One" video will match, but I will watch it again. I'll probably see if Amber and Henry's "Happy Holiday" video has anything that will match well, because I so totally ship them. (They're Not-Born-In-China Chinese!!! I guess Amber would be an ABC aka American-Born Chinese, while Henry would be a CBC aka Canadian-Born Chinese..... I'm an ABC like Amber! ke ke ke ke ke.....)

Then, of course, we definitely need to involve the YG family, or at least Epik High, since we ARE The Epik Nasties... They had a Christmas Concert video where they have SANTA HATS!! I think I can totally use this. This was from their MapTheSoul account. Maybe I can also add in a little of one of my personal favorites from their MapTheSoul account - "Beasty Mithra VS. Tablo & Tukutz"  -  just for the adorable-ness.

The GURUPOP Show needs our help! Help out?

The boys need some real help. I know the holidays are coming up, but if you chip in just a little and share the link [ http://www.indiegogo.com/gurupop/x/1229433?c=home ] to many other K-pop fans and maybe they can contribute a little bit. Then, maybe we can get these boys the funds they need!

Come on Nasties, look at how much we raised for Simon and Martina in such a little amount of time. Just spread the word far and wide and together, us K-pop fans, can help these cuties out.
HWAITING!!

Epik Nasties - Christmas Cover?

Hey guys!!! It's Jenny here again. Are you one of the Nasties that wishes that you could have participated in the making of the Epik High cover? Well, guess what!!  I'm going to make a cover of the JYP family's "This Christmas."

I'm not the one that edited our first video, so it might not turn out as awesome. (I'm the one with the sucky editing software... so don't expect any Dancing Death Gods (Ryuk is awesome!), but I will do my absolute best to make it awesome!!!)  If you want to join in on the fun, film yourself dancing or lip syncing to "This Christmas" and send it to epiknasties@gmail.com

"When do you want the clips by?"
There's no real deadline, but I plan to start piecing clips together on Saturday, 12/22 and I want it to be done and posted by late Christmas Eve, or if I get held up for some reason, early Christmas (and by "early" I mean like 2am EST early) so if you want to help out, try to send it in about that time AT THE LATEST.

"What do you want us to do?"
Honestly, ANYTHING - as long as it's fun and festive and you have fun doing it. Send it in!
I believe one of my fellow Epik Nasties (Fuuko) is going to send in clips of her toy squid dancing! ^_^
And I might be doing a little bit of a dance with my green stuffed toy... his name is The Grinch.. you might know him *wink* *wink*

"How long do you want the clips to be?"
It doesn't really matter. I don't know what kinds of clips and how many clips I'm going to get yet. Make it at least a few seconds long and don't make it the entire song. (Or if you just want to dance to the entire song and leave for me to cut and edit i guess that's okay too. Gives me more to work with!!)
